=Viking farmstead=
Archaeological research revealed the presence of a Scandinavian farmstead, with three large buildings around a paved farmyard, including a longhouse and a smithy, and suggesting that the present weathered conditions date from later than this farmstead of around the 9th century.{{cite web|title=Settlement on Gauber High Pasture Rock|url=http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/search/fr.cfm?rcn=YDNPA05-MYD3669|work=MYD3669|publisher=Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority|accessdate=25 August 2013}}{{cite web|last=King|first=A|title=Gauber high pasture, Ribblehead—an interim report|url=http://www.archeurope.com/_texts/00069.pdf|accessdate=25 August 2013|year=1976|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20131114011027/http://www.archeurope.com/_texts/00069.pdf|archivedate=14 November 2013|url-status=dead}}
