Its native range is Spain.

The genus name of Rivasmartinezia is in honour of Salvador Rivas Martínez (1935–2020), who was a Spanish Biologist, Apothecary, Botanist (Mycology, Lichenology, Pteridology), also mountaineer and Alpinist.
