Ronald Nelson Carpenter (born on June 24, 1948) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive tackle for seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL). Early life

Carpenter was born on June 24, 1948, in High Point, North Carolina. He attended Thomasville High School. Professional football

The Bengals selected Carpenter in the second round of the 1970 NFL draft (32nd overall).{{Cite web |title=1970 NFL Draft Listing |url=https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/1970/draft.htm |access-date=2025-02-07 |website=Pro-Football-Reference.com |language=en}} He played defensive tackle and defensive end for the Bengals from 1970-76. Carpenter has been unofficially credited with 45.5 sacks for his career, and had 10 fumble recoveries. During a critical late November 1976 game between the Bengals and defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers, played in heavy snow conditions, Reid blocked a Roy Gerela field goal attempt.
