The ruby tetra (Axelrodia riesei) is a species of freshwater fish in the family Characidae.

It is endemic to the Río Meta, Colombia, South America. In nature, it has a natural red colour, but this is somewhat lessened in captivity. Ruby tetras grow up to {{convert|3|cm|in|abbr=on}} to {{convert|3.5|cm|in|abbr=on}} long.

Named in honor of tropical-fish exporter William Riese, who collected the type specimen.{{cite web | url = http://www.etyfish.org/characiformes7/ | title = Order CHARACIFORMES: Family CHARACIDAE: Subfamily STEVARDIINAE + Incertae sedis | access-date= 27 March 2021 | author1 = Christopher Scharpf | author2 = Kenneth J.
