== History ==

Rupture was founded by Shawn Fanning and Jon Baudanza in June 2006. He did so because he wished to foster communication between players, find out what they're playing, and provide a showcase where they could display their accomplishments.{{cite news |first=Mike |last=Snider |title=Napster creator tears down walls for social gaming |url=https://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2009-06-22-fanning-rupture_N.htm |newspaper=USA Today |date=2009-06-24 |accessdate=9 September 2009 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20090727085150/http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2009-06-22-fanning-rupture_N.htm |url-status=live |archivedate=2009-07-27 }}{{Cite web|date=2006-12-02|title=Fanning to launch Rupture, a social network for games|url=https://venturebeat.com/2006/12/02/fanning-to-launch-rupture-a-social-network-for-games/|access-date=2021-08-07|website=VentureBeat|language=en-US|archive-date=2021-08-07|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210807170334/https://venturebeat.com/2006/12/02/fanning-to-launch-rupture-a-social-network-for-games/|url-status=live}}
