Russell Edmonds Carter, Jr. (born February 10, 1962) is an American former professional football player who was a safety in the National Football League (NFL) for six seasons during the 1980s. Carter played college football for Southern Methodist University, and then played professionally for the New York Jets and Los Angeles Raiders of the NFL.
Early life and education

Professional career
The New York Jets selected Carter in the first round (tenth pick overall) of the 1984 NFL draft.{{Cite web |title=1984 NFL Draft Listing |url=https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/1984/draft.htm |access-date=2023-10-10 |website=Pro-Football-Reference.com |language=en}} He played for the Jets from 1984 to 1987. He spent his final two NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Raiders in 1988 and 1989.
