Russia sent a delegation to compete at the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver, Canada. The country fielded thirty-two athletes in cross-country skiing, biathlon, and alpine skiing.[http://english.ruvr.ru/2010/02/19/4704950.html "Russia sends team to Vancouver Paralympics"] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100221033053/http://english.ruvr.ru/2010/02/19/4704950.html# |date=2010-02-21 }}, The Voice of Russia, February 19, 2010 Russia placed second in the final medal standings, though first in the total medal count, winning thirty-eight medals.{{Cite web |url=http://www.vancouver2010.com/paralympic-games/ |title=Paralympic Games : Vancouver 2010 Winter Paralympics |access-date=2010-03-01 |archive-date=2010-12-25 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20101225200946/http://www.vancouver2010.com/paralympic-games/ |url-status=dead }}

The Moscow Times noted the irony in the fact that there had been high hope for Russia's Winter Olympians, while fairly little attention had been paid to its Paralympians, until their performance stood out with a crop of medals.[http://www.themoscowtimes.com/news/article/disabled-athletes-show-up-olympics-team/402021.html "Disabled Athletes Show Up Olympics Team"], Moscow Times, March 18, 2010 While the Moscow Times focused on the difficulties faced by the country's Paralympians in their everyday life, however, the Vancouver Sun remarked: "Unlike Canada and other countries where almost all Paralympians must have jobs, Team Russia's competitors are akin to 'sports professionals'. Most don't work so they can focus solely on their training, which is funded by the state and individual sponsors".[https://vancouversun.com/sports/2010wintergames/machine+churns+Paralympic+stars/2706604/story.html "Big red machine churns out Paralympic stars"], Vancouver Sun, March 20, 2010

With Sochi being the host city of the 2014 Winter Paralympics, a Russian segment was performed at the closing ceremony.
