The gunboat Opyt ({{Langx|ru|Опыт}}: experience) was the first ironclad warship commissioned by the Imperial Russian Navy. It was built by Carr and MacPherson at the Baltic shipyard in Saint Petersburg.[http://www.bz.ru/ru/history-hist_ship.html Boats and ships built at the Baltic Factory (1856-2006)] {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20111111022610/http://www.bz.ru/ru/history-hist_ship.html |date=2011-11-11 }} {{in lang|ru}} English and Russian wrought iron plates 1200 x 1000 mm in size protected the front part of the gunboat.
