Denys signed his first professional contract at the end of the 1996–97 season. He made his debut on the opening day of the 1997–98 Second Division season in a 3–0 loss at Millwall, as a half-time substitute for Simon Spencer.{{Soccerbase season|10628|1997|access-date=7 April 2014}} He made his first start in following game against Shrewsbury Town in the League Cup first round and scored his first senior goal for the club in a 1–1 draw. He held down a regular starting place from August through to October 1997. After Micky Adams replaced Eddie May as manager in November 1997, Denys fell behind Glenn Cockerill, Leon Townley and David McGhee in the midfield pecking order. His final appearance of the season came on 13 January 1998, in a 2–2 Football League Trophy second round defeat to Luton Town. Denys joined Conference club Yeovil Town on a one-month loan on 30 January 1998 and made five appearances, scoring one goal.{{Cite web |title=Ryan Denys |url=http://www.ytfc.digital/players/238 |access-date=5 October 2021 |website=ytfc.digital}} He made 24 Brentford appearances during the 1997–98 season, scoring two goals.

Under new manager Ron Noades, Denys was not called into the first team squad during the 1998–99 season and in February 1999, he joined Isthmian League Premier Division strugglers Carshalton Athletic until the end of the 1998–99 season.{{Cite news |date=28 March 1999 |title=Football: On The Move – Sport |work=The Independent |url=https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football-on-the-move-1083565.html |access-date=7 April 2014}}{{Cite web |date=22 August 1966 |title=Transfers Feb.1999 |url=http://www.globalsoccertransfers.com/player/tran9902.html |access-date=7 April 2014 |publisher=Globalsoccertransfers.com}} He was released in June 1999.{{Cite book |last1=Croxford |first1=Mark |title=The Big Brentford Book Of The Nineties |last2=Lane |first2=David |last3=Waterman |first3=Greville |publisher=Legends Publishing |year=2013 |isbn=9781906796723 |location=Sunbury, Middlesex |page=420}}
