Born in Miyazaki, Haga started judo at the age of 5.{{cite news|publisher=Baseball Magazine Sha Co., Ltd|title=近代柔道 2015年4月号 柔道全日本強化選手名鑑 2015 -|date=2015-04-20}} He won the gold medal in the {{nbnd}}100 kg weight class at the 2010 World Juniors Championships in Agadir.
In 2011, Haga won the Shenzhen Universiade. Haga's father, Yoshio, was also a judoka.
