Early life and education
Born in Pattan in the north-western district of Jammu and Kashmir in Baramulla, India, on March 30, 1957, he currently lives in Sanat Nagar Srinagar Kashmir.

Tabish has led the design and implementation of programs at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar and Qassim University in Saudi Arabia. These programs covered scientific research, recent advances and future trends in medical sciences, evidence-based medicine, total quality management, advanced techniques in specialized patient care, emerging perspectives in healthcare, traumatic brain injury, lifestyle diseases, and emerging infectious diseases. S. Amin Tabish is a poet who writes in English, Urdu, and Kashmiri. = Social sciences and literature =
Tabish has written over 300 articles in English, Urdu, and Kashmiri over four decades. His first book Hussaini Karvanuk Safar (History of Karbala) was subsequently included in the Curricula of Masters in Kashmiri language.
At 24, Tabish served as Secretary-General of the Kashmir Cultural Organization from 1982 to 1987 and was the Editor of Koshur Akhbar (the first weekly Kashmiri-language newspaper in India).
= Healthcare =
Tabish worked as Head of Accident & Emergency Services at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar from 1997 to 2010 and held the position of Chairman from 2010 to 2012. He established a 100-bed emergency department with a unique "level system", the first of its kind. He also established a disaster management program with a separate disaster management ward at SKIMS, Srinagar to treat mass casualties in one place to save lives and limbs.

From 2000 to 2005, Tabish introduced several essential training programs for doctors and nurses at SKIMS, Srinagar, including basic life support, advanced life support, and advanced cardiac life support to strengthen emergency and critical care services.

Tabish organized conferences and seminars for health professionals (National, International, Regional, and State level) at SKIMS, AIIMS New Delhi, and Saudi Arabia. He delivered lectures on health issues and medical education in the United Kingdom, the Middle East, India and the USA. He chaired several scientific sessions at various international conferences. His scientific research has focused on traumatic brain injury, lifestyle diseases, emerging infectious diseases, pandemics and epidemics, health policy and planning, and recent trends in medical education.

Tabish served as a Medical Council of India Inspector/Assessor from 2010 to 2020. He has been a Selection Expert for the Faculty at AIIMS, SGPGI Lucknow, and Qassim University.
He has also been a Visiting Professor at premier Saudi Arabian Universities and served as an External Examiner for AIIMS New Delhi, Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, and the National Board of Examinations (India).

Prof. Tabish introduced M. Sc. Nursing at the Nursing College of SKIMS and simultaneously facilitated PhD in nursing of a dozen candidates. Dr. Tabish played a key role in establishing the J&K Nursing Council.

Accomplishments
Tabish became a fellow at the International Medical Sciences Academy in India in 1998, followed by fellowships at the National Academy of Medical Sciences in New Delhi in 2003 and the American College of Physicians (USA) in 2006. He also received fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians in London (2002), and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (2004).
