Career
After assisting H. R. Bharghava, Raj Kishore and A. T. Raghu, Narayan made his directorial debut with the romantic drama Chaitrada Premanjali (1992), with newcomers. The film, which featured a successful soundtrack by Hamsalekha became a musical hit at the box office. He then went on to direct similar themed romantic films such as Anuragada Alegalu (1992), Megha Maale (1994), and also successful family dramas like Thavarina Thottilu and Bevu Bella. Throughout the 2000s, he directed mostly remakes, such as Surya Vamsha, Simhadriya Simha, and Cheluvina Chittara. In 2015, he directed Daksha, starring Duniya Vijay, which was completely shot in single takes.{{cite web|url=http://www.sify.com/movies/duniya-vijay-s-daksha-with-s-narayan-news-kannada-oehjBmhigibsi.html|title=Duniya Vijay's 'Daksha' with S.Narayan|website=Sify |access-date=4 February 2017|archive-date=5 February 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170205111344/http://www.sify.com/movies/duniya-vijay-s-daksha-with-s-narayan-news-kannada-oehjBmhigibsi.html|url-status=dead}} In 2016, he was supposed to direct a project called JD, starring Jagadish Gowda and Dictator with Huccha Venkat; both got shelved after launch.{{cite web|url=http://www.indiaglitz.com/s-narayan-jd-starts-kannada-news-161850.html|title=- Kannada Movie News - IndiaGlitz.com|access-date=4 February 2017|archive-date=5 February 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170205100040/http://www.indiaglitz.com/s-narayan-jd-starts-kannada-news-161850.html|url-status=live}}{{cite web|url=http://www.chitraloka.com/news/12719-s-narayan-to-direct-huchcha-venkat-s-dictator.html|title=S Narayan to Direct Huchcha Venkat's Dictator - chitraloka.com - Kannada Movie News, Reviews - Image|website=www.chitraloka.com|access-date=4 February 2017|archive-date=22 October 2016|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161022055157/http://www.chitraloka.com/news/12719-s-narayan-to-direct-huchcha-venkat-s-dictator.html|url-status=live}} He directed Na Panta Kano and Manasu Mallige, a remake of the Marathi film Sairat.
