He is a former minister for fisheries, registration and harbour engineering, and electricity and co-operation in the Government of Kerala{{cite web|url=http://www.niyamasabha.org/codes/cmin.htm|title=Council of Ministers - Kerala|publisher=Kerala Legislative Assembly|accessdate=16 January 2010}} and a member of Kerala State Committee of Communist Party of India (Marxist).
