{{Infobox_gene}}

Septin-1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SEPTIN1 gene.{{cite journal | vauthors = Mori T, Miura K, Fujiwara T, Shin S, Inazawa J, Nakamura Y | title = Isolation and mapping of a human gene (DIFF6) homologous to yeast CDC3, CDC10, CDC11, and CDC12, and mouse Diff6 | journal = Cytogenetics and Cell Genetics | volume = 73 | issue = 3 | pages = 224–7 | date = Sep 1996 | pmid = 8697812 | doi = 10.1159/000134343 }}{{cite web | title = Entrez Gene: SEPT1 septin 1| url = https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=gene&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=1731}}

It was renamed from SEPT1 to avoid problems where Microsoft Excel would auto-correct the gene name to the date September 1.{{Cite web |title=Scientists rename human genes to stop Microsoft Excel from misreading them as dates |url=https://www.theverge.com/2020/8/6/21355674/human-genes-rename-microsoft-excel-misreading-dates |access-date=2022-10-24 |website=the Verge |language=en-US|first=James|last=Vincent|date=6 August 2020 }}

Function

This gene is a member of the septin family of GTPases. Members of this family are required for cytokinesis. This gene encodes a protein associated with the tau-based paired helical filament core, and may contribute to the formation of neurofibrillary tangles in Alzheimer's disease.
