:Sfinks (Polish for "Sphynx") was also the initial name of the Janusz A. Zajdel Award

In cryptography, SFINKS is a stream cypher algorithm developed by An Braeken, Joseph Lano, Nele Mentens, Bart Preneel, and Ingrid Verbauwhede. It includes a message authentication code. It has been submitted to the eSTREAM Project of the eCRYPT network.{{Cite web |title=eSTREAM - The ECRYPT Stream Cipher Project |url=https://www.ecrypt.eu.org/stream/sfinks.html |access-date=2024-08-15 |website=www.ecrypt.eu.org}}Braeken, A., Lano, J., Mentens, N., Preneel, B., & Verbauwhede, I. Courtois noted that, while the cipher is elegant and secure against some simple algebraic attacks, it is vulnerable to more elaborate known attacks.{{Cite book |last=Courtois |first=Nicolas T. |date=2006 |editor-last=Won |editor-first=Dong Ho |editor2-last=Kim |editor2-first=Seungjoo |chapter=Cryptanalysis of Sfinks |chapter-url=https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/11734727_22 |title=Information Security and Cryptology - ICISC 2005 |series=Lecture Notes in Computer Science |volume=3935 |language=en |location=Berlin, Heidelberg |publisher=Springer |pages=261–269 |doi=10.1007/11734727_22 |isbn=978-3-540-33355-5}}
