SLiM ("Selection on Linked Mutations") is software designed for conducting forward-in-time genetic simulations of eco-evolutionary scenarios. It allows researchers to simulate complex population genetics models, accommodating both Wright-Fisher and non-Wright-Fisher models. Over a thousand scientific papers have cited one of the SLiM release publications (and, presumably, used the software for simulations), according to GoogleScholar (in particular version 3{{cite journal |last1=Haller |first1=Benjamin C. |last2=Messer |first2=Philipp W. |title=SLiM 3: forward genetic simulations beyond the Wright–Fisher model |journal=Molecular Biology and Evolution |volume=36 |issue=3 |pages=632–637 |year=2019 |doi=10.1093/molbev/msy228|pmid=30517680 |pmc=6389312 }}).

SLiM supports various evolutionary processes, including mutation, recombination, migration, and genetic drift,{{cite journal |last1=Haller |first1=Benjamin C. |last2=Messer |first2=Philipp W. |title=SLiM 2: flexible, interactive forward genetic simulations |journal=Molecular Biology and Evolution |volume=34 |issue=1 |pages=230–240 |year=2017 |doi=10.1093/molbev/msw211|pmid=27702775 }} selection on fecundity or survival,{{cite journal |last1=Haller |first1=Benjamin C. |last2=Messer |first2=Philipp W. |title=SLiM 3: forward genetic simulations beyond the Wright–Fisher model |journal=Molecular Biology and Evolution |volume=36 |issue=3 |pages=632–637 |year=2019 |doi=10.1093/molbev/msy228|pmid=30517680 |pmc=6389312 }} and is designed to enable users to explore the dynamics of genomes under different selective pressures and demographic events of one or multiple populations and species.{{cite journal |last1=Haller |first1=Benjamin C. |last2=Messer |first2=Philipp W. |title=SLiM 4: multispecies eco-evolutionary modeling |journal=The American Naturalist |volume=201 |issue=5 |pages=E127–E139 |year=2023 |doi=10.1086/724133|pmid=37130229 |pmc=10793872 }}

The SLiM also offers a scripting language, Eidos, which provides customization options for defining evolutionary parameters and interactions within and between populations. Almost all information regarding Eidos and SLiM are available in the SLiM{{cite web |last1=Haller |first1=B.C. |last2=Messer |first2=P.W. |year=2016 |title=SLiM: An Evolutionary Simulation Framework |url=http://benhaller.com/slim/SLiM_Manual.pdf |access-date=26 August 2024}} and Eidos manuals.{{cite web |last=Haller |first=B.C. |year=2016 |title=Eidos: A Simple Scripting Language |url=http://benhaller.com/slim/Eidos_Manual.pdf |access-date=26 August 2024}}
