Saeki no Akamaro

Saeki no Akamaro (佐伯赤麻呂) was a Japanese waka poet of the Nara period.

Biography

His birth and death dates are unknown, as are all details of his life.{{sfnm|1a1=Taira|1y=1986|1p=6}} His kabane was Sukune.{{sfnm|1a1=Taira|1y=1986|1p=6}}

One theory holds that he was the same person as the more famous {{illm|Saeki no Kiyomaro|ja|佐伯浄麻呂}}.{{sfnm|1a1=Nihon Jinmei Daijiten Plus|1y=2015}}

Poetry

Several of his poems survive in the Man'yōshū,{{sfnm|1a1=Taira|1y=1986|1p=6}} specifically in two poetic exchanges he had with his daughter (who is unnamed),{{sfnm|1a1=Taira|1y=1986|1p=6}} in which his poems are those numbered 405 and 628.{{sfnm|1a1=Taira|1y=1986|1p=6}} One other tanka of his was included in the collection, as number 630.{{sfnm|1a1=Taira|1y=1986|1p=6}} He is considered a poet of the "fourth period" of the Man'yōshū.{{sfnm|1a1=Taira|1y=1986|1p=6}}
