The building was built in 1909, just north of a depot of the Oregon Short Line Railroad.{{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=01001082}} |title=National Register of Historic Places Registration Form: Salt Lake Hardware Building |author=Judy Reese |date=August 15, 2001 |publisher=National Park Service}} and {{NRHP url|id=01001082|title=accompanying four photos|photos=y}}
