Samudravijaya was the father of Neminatha (twenty-second Tirthankara) and brother of Vasudeva (father of Krishna).{{sfn|Shah|2004|p=24}} He was born to King Andhakavṛṣṭī of Harivamsa dynasty in Śaurīpura where he later ruled as a king.{{sfn|Jain|2009|p=88}} He married princess Shivadevi.{{sfn|von Glasenapp|1999|p=317}}
