Geology
A study published in 2011 at the Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research indicated that the Santa Margarida and Croscat volcanoes were the product of the same eruption event 11,500 years ago, alternating freatomagmatic activity, between water and magma, and magmatic activity.{{cite web | url=http://www.abc.es/agencias/noticia.asp?noticia=669386 |title=Descubren que volcanes Croscat y Santa Margarida los formó la misma erupción |trans-title=They discover that the Croscat and Santa Margarida volcanoes were formed by the same eruption |language=es |date=27 January 2011 |work=EFE |publisher=abc.es |access-date=18 March 2012}}{{Cite journal | last1 = Martí | first1 = J. | last2 = Planagumà | first2 = L. | last3 = Geyer | first3 = A. | last4 = Canal | first4 = E. | last5 = Pedrazzi | first5 = D. | title = Complex interaction between Strombolian and phreatomagmatic eruptions in the Quaternary monogenetic volcanism of the Catalan Volcanic Zone (NE of Spain) | doi = 10.1016/j.jvolgeores.2010.12.009 | journal = Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research | volume = 201 | pages = 178–193 | year = 2011 | issue = 1–4 }}
