The Satala Cemetery is located on the north side of Pago Pago Harbor on the island of Tutuila, the largest in American Samoa. The cemetery was established, apparently late in the 19th century, by the United States Navy, as an interment site for foreigners on the island. Traditional Samoan burial practice is to bury family members on their property, a method not available to outsiders. One section of the cemetery is dedicated to graves of Korean fishermen.{{cite web|url=http://americansamoa.noaa.gov/pdfs/as_heritage.pdf|title=Maritime Heritage Inventory of American Samoa, June 2007|publisher=NOAA|accessdate=2015-06-22}}
The cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. It was damaged by a tsunami that struck the island in 2009.{{cite news|url=http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/american-samoa-hit-tsunami-underwater-8-3-earthquake-warning-issued-hawaii-article-1.383099|accessdate=2015-06-22|title=American Samoa hit by tsunami after underwater 8.3 earthquake; warning issued for Hawaii|last=Kennedy|first=Helen|date=2009-09-30|newspaper=New York Newsday}}
