Reception
Donald Clarke of The Irish Times called the film a "finely honed shocker enlivened by occasional moments of impressively black humour".{{cite web |url= https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/film/savage-1.652178|title= Savage|last= Clarke|first= Donald|date= 17 September 2010|website= The Irish Times|publisher= |access-date= 24 December 2023|quote=}}
Gareth Jones of Dread Central gave the film a score of 4/5 and called it an "earnest, and devastating, study of the psychological effects of victimisation, brutalisation, intimidation, and sheer aggression turned inwards."{{cite web |url= https://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/22915/savage-uk-dvd/|title= Savage (UK DVD)|last= Jones|first= Gareth|date= 14 March 2011|website= Dread Central|publisher= |access-date= 24 December 2023|quote=}}
Paul Whitington of the Irish Independent rated the film 3 stars out of 5 and wrote that it "goes a long way on a very slim premise". Whitington praised the sound effects but criticised the "baroque conclusion that clumsily hammers home the film's message."{{cite web |url= https://www.independent.ie/entertainment/movies/movies-savage/26681543.html|title= Movies: Savage * * *|last= Whitington|first= Paul|date= 17 September 2010|website= Irish Independent|publisher= |access-date= 24 December 2023|quote=}}
