SciTegic was a San Diego–based software company that developed and marketed informatics software to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
History
The company was founded in February 1999 by Mathew A. Hahn and David Rogers.{{cite web| url=http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=2813731| archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110430095245/http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=2813731| url-status=dead| archive-date=April 30, 2011|title=SciTegic Company Overview| website=businessweek.com| accessdate=29 May 2014}} Mathew Hahn and David Rogers came from the bioinformatics software company Molecular Simulations.{{cite web|url=http://www.freewebs.com/stimit11aca/Readings/Emerging%20Company%20Profile%20SciTegic%20Data%20Pipelining.pdf| title=Emerging company profile - SciTegic Data Pipelining|last=Farr-Jones|first=Shauna|date=16 Apr 2001|website=Biocentury - The Bernstein Report on BioBusiness|accessdate=29 May 2014}}
In 2004, it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Accelrys after a $21.5 million deal.[http://www.outsourcing-pharma.com/Clinical-Development/Accelrys-announces-merger-with-SciTegic Accelrys announces merger with SciTegic]
Pipeline pilot
Pipeline pilot was designed to reduce the manual data entry and transfer steps required of computational chemists and project chemists in screening and modeling workflows.{{cite journal|title=Data Pipelines and Virtual Screening: Automating the Process| journal=QSAR Comb. Sci.|volume=25|year= 2006|issue=12 |pages= 1181–1191|publisher=Wiley-VCH|doi=10.1002/qsar.200610089|last1=Brown|first1= Robert D.|last2=Varma-O'Brien|first2=Shika|last3=Rogers|first3=David}} A streamlined workflow could then be used by bench scientists and reduce the need to interact with multiple software packages to one interface.
Creating Pipeline Pilot, SciTegic has pioneered a technology approach called "Data Pipelining" to flexibly process drug discovery data.{{cite journal|last1=Warr|first1=Wendy A.|title=Scientific workflow systems: Pipeline Pilot and KNIME|journal=Journal of Computer-Aided Molecular Design|volume=26|issue=7|year=2012|pages=801–804|issn=0920-654X|doi=10.1007/s10822-012-9577-7|pmid=22644661|pmc=3414708|bibcode=2012JCAMD..26..801W }} This software uses a visual and dataflow programming language much like LabVIEW for piping input and output of commands together to build a pipeline to transform any number of inputs (raw data) into any number of outputs (e.g., a spreadsheet tying together the results of multiple experiments).
Mathew Hahn assumed technical leadership roles, including Chief Technology Officer, for Accelrys after the acquisition.
