Scouts and Guides have existed in Nauru at various times. Scouts in Nauru have been linked to Scout leaders in Geelong, Victoria dating back to the 1930s,[http://www.theorderofaustralia.asn.au/quiet_australians/database/extra/extra561.pdf "A long, busy career in Scouting"] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140714185734/http://www.theorderofaustralia.asn.au/quiet_australians/database/extra/extra561.pdf |date=2014-07-14 }}, Australian Scout, April 1999.

Nauru has a Guiding organisation but its membership and recognition remains unclear.

History

Scouting was introduced to Nauru before 1937, and initially relied on older islanders as teachers of traditional bushcraft, serving as a tool of cultural preservation. In December 1937, more than one eighth of the island's population were Scouts.[http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article11133119 Scouting in Nauru - How The Movement Helped An Island], The Argus, 16 December 1937

In 1982, Nauru issued a miniature sheet of stamps commemorating the Year of the Scout.{{usurped|1=[https://web.archive.org/web/20100610031322/http://www.indianstampghar.com/2010/03/miniature-sheet-nauru-scouts/ "Miniature Sheet - Nauru - Scouts"]}}, Indian Stamp Ghar, 6 March 2010

Relationship with Geelong Scouts

Nauruan Scouts and Geelong Scouts camped next to each other at the 1934 Jamboree at Frankston. Harold Hurst, the leader of Geelong Scouts at the Jamboree, was a driving force in establishing ties between the two groups, having provided transportation, accommodation and education for visiting Nauruan Scouts. The Geelong Scouts subsequently collected books to send to Nauru and, by 1936, the Nauru Scouts had approximately 1000 books.[http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article11881941 "Boy Scouts from Nauru"], The Argus, 13 February 1936.

In May 2013, Scouts from Nauru visited Scouts from Geelong.[http://www.geelongscouts.org.au/peninsulanewsletter2013.html "Leader Newsletter - Geelong Peninsula District"] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160305002355/http://www.geelongscouts.org.au/peninsulanewsletter2013.html |date=2016-03-05 }}, Wayne Myers, May 2013
