The family Scraptiidae is a small group of tenebrionoid beetles sometimes called false flower beetles. There are about 400 species in 30 genera with a world-wide distribution. The adults are found on flowers, sometimes in large numbers,{{cite book |last1=Arnett |first1=Ross H. |title=American Beetles, Volume II |date=2002 |publisher=CRC Press |page=564}} but are also found on foliage. The larvae are typically found under the bark of dead trees.Lawrence, John F. and Ślipinśki, Adam. "11.28. Scraptiidae Mulsant, 1856". Volume 2 Morphology and Systematics (Elateroidea, Bostrichiformia, Cucujiformia partim), edited by Willy Kükenthal, Richard A.B. Leschen, Rolf G. Beutel and John F. Lawrence, Berlin, New York: De Gruyter, 2011, pp. 746-750. The oldest fossils of the group date to the Eocene.{{Cite journal |last1=Haug |first1=Joachim T. |last2=Haug |first2=Carolin |date=2019-10-14 |title=Beetle larvae with unusually large terminal ends and a fossil that beats them all (Scraptiidae, Coleoptera) |journal=PeerJ |volume=7 |pages=e7871 |doi=10.7717/peerj.7871 |pmid=31632854 |pmc=6796959 |issn=2167-8359|doi-access=free }}
