History

Sefer belongs to the ethnographic region of Karadak, specifically the subregion of Llapushnica. Until the summer of 1947, the villages of Llapushnica—Sefer, Stanevce, Kurbalija, Depce,Bujić, Cerevajka, Pečeno, Maxherja, and Ranatovce—were part of the Municipality of Zhegër, located in the District of Gjilan and Kosovo. However, they were unexpectedly incorporated by Yugoslav authorities into the Municipality of Preševo, with which they had no cultural ties and only limited connections.{{Cite book |last=Murati-Staneci |first=Jahi |title=Bujku |year=1996 |location=Preševo |publication-date=22 April 1996 |pages=7 |language=sq}} The inhabitants are divided into four clans, all of which descend from the Berisha tribe.{{Cite web |date=2020-09-11 |title=Порекло презимена, село Сефер (Прешево) - Порекло |url=https://www.poreklo.rs/2020/09/11/poreklo-prezimena-selo-sefer-presevo/ |access-date=2025-03-20 |website=www.poreklo.rs |language=sr-RS}}
