The Sembawang Group Representation Constituency is a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) located in the northern area of Singapore. The GRC has five divisions: Sembawang Central, Naval Base, Woodlands, Admiralty and Canberra, managed by Sembawang Town Council. It also encompasses a section of Singapore's northern territorial waters in the Straits of Johor. The current Members of Parliament (MPs) are Gabriel Lam, Mariam Jaafar, Ng Shi Xuan, Ong Ye Kung and Vikram Nair from the People's Action Party (PAP).
History
For the 2025 general election, the majority of the residential area of Sembawang West ward was carved out of the GRC to form a new Sembawang West Single Member Constituency (SMC) in order to reduce the number of voters in the GRC.{{Cite web |title=GE2025: Six new SMCs created as the EBRC lays out changes to constituencies |url=https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/ge2025-six-new-smc-general-election-boundary-changes-4992541 |access-date=12 March 2025 |website=CNA |language=en}}{{Cite news |date=11 March 2025 |title=6 new SMCs for GE2025, five single seats gone |url=https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/politics/6-new-smcs-for-ge2025-five-single-seats-gone |access-date=12 March 2025 |work=The Straits Times |language=en |issn=0585-3923}}
In the same year, the National Solidarity Party (NSP) and the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) entered talks hoping to avert a three-cornered fight in the GRC.{{Cite web |last=Begum |first=Shabana |date=6 April 2025 |title=GE2025: NSP plans to meet SDP for talks to avoid three-cornered fight in Sembawang GRC |url=https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/politics/nsp-plans-to-meet-sdp-to-avoid-three-cornered-fight-in-sembawang-grc |access-date=16 April 2025 |website=The Straits Times}} However, on 12 April, both parties were unable to come to an agreement as NSP rejected SDP's proposal for NSP to instead contest in Holland–Bukit Timah.{{Cite web |last=Begum |first=Shabana |date=12 April 2025 |title=GE2025: NSP, SDP fail in talks to avoid three-cornered fight in Sembawang GRC |url=https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/politics/ge2025-nsp-sdp-fail-in-talks-to-avoid-three-cornered-fight-in-sembawang-grc |access-date=16 April 2025 |website=The Straits Times}}
Due to the creation of Sembawang West SMC, Poh Li San, left the GRC team to stand for reelection alone.{{Cite news |last=Begum |first=Shabana |date=22 April 2025 |title=GE2025: Poh Li San to contest new Sembawang West SMC, against SDP’s Chee Soon Juan |url=https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/politics/ge2025-poh-li-san-to-contest-new-sembawang-west-smc-against-sdps-chee-soon-juan |access-date=22 April 2025 |work=The Straits Times |language=en |issn=0585-3923}} A reconfigured PAP team defeated SDP with 67.75% of the vote to the SDP's 29.93%, while the NSP lost their deposit with 2.32% of the vote.{{Cite news |date=2025-05-04 |title=GE2025: PAP wins Sembawang GRC with 67.75% of the vote, Poh Li San wins Sembawang West SMC |url=https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/politics/ge2025-pap-wins-sembawang-grc-with-67-75-of-the-vote-in-three-cornered-fight |access-date=2025-06-08 |work=The Straits Times |language=en |issn=0585-3923}}
