Senoia ({{IPAc-en|s|ə|ˈ|n|ɔɪ|ə}}, {{IPAc-en|local|s|ə|ˈ|n|ɔɪ}}) is a city located south of Atlanta in Coweta County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Its population was 5,016 at the 2020 census.{{cite web|title=U.S. Census Bureau|url=https://www.census.gov|publisher=United States Census Bureau|access-date=2 May 2012}}

History

The first permanent settlement in the area was made in 1860 by Rev. Francis Warren Baggarly. In 1864, around the time residents of the nearby Willow Dell community began to arrive, the settlement was named Senoia. A number of the area's first structures appeared this year, such as a mercantile building known as the Rock House and a Methodist Episcopal church led by Baggarly. A high school would open in 1865. Senoia was officially incorporated as a city on December 12, 1866.{{cite book | url=http://www.kenkrakow.com/gpn/s.pdf| title=Georgia Place-Names: Their History and Origins | publisher=Winship Press | author=Krakow, Kenneth K. | year=1975 | location=Macon, GA | pages=203 | isbn=0-915430-00-2}}{{cite news | url= https://www.senoia.com/community/page/history-senoia-georgia | title=History of Senoia, Georgia| publisher=Senoia Area Historical Society | author=Unknown | year=2021 | location=Senoia, GA | pages=1}}

Senoia has been chosen twice to host the Southern Living Idea House, in 2010 and 2012. The Idea Houses are designer showcases of the finest trends in home design and furnishings.

  • In 2010 a four-story {{convert|4880|sqft|adj=on}} luxury brownstone that is part of the Historic Senoia Project was decorated by noted local designer and decorator Jamie McPherson.{{cite web|url=http://www.thecitizen.com/articles/06-10-2010/southern-livings-2010-idea-house-opens-weekend-senoia |title=Southern Living's 2010 "Idea House" opens this weekend in Senoia |date=10 June 2010 |publisher=The Citizen |access-date=2018-07-30}}
  • The 2012 Idea House is a renovated 1830s farmhouse located in Senoia's Gin Property neighborhood. The house was raised, moved a bit closer to the street, peeled back to its original materials, gutted, reconfigured, added on to, and redecorated. This was the first time that an Idea House was not a new building. Instead, the 2012 project was a restoration and enlargement of a historic home.Southern Living, August 2012 The home is now a private residence.
