Career

Seong served as a professor at Myongji University from March 1968 to May 1982.{{citation|url=http://plaza.snu.ac.kr/~linguist/new/people01.php|script-title=ko:교수진 |publisher=Department of Linguistics, Seoul National University|accessdate=2010-05-27|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110615074125/http://plaza.snu.ac.kr/~linguist/new/people01.php|archivedate=2011-06-15}} The translation of the Tale of the Nisan Shaman into Korean he made while there ({{harvnb|Seong|1974}}) would prove to be an important reference for its later translation into English.{{citation|last=Yen|first=Alsace|year=1980|title=Book Review: The Tale of the Nišan Shamaness|journal=The Journal of American Folklore|volume=93|number=1|pages=88–90|jstor=540231|doi=10.2307/540231}} In 1982, Seong moved to Seoul National University, where he held various positions including professor from September 1982 to February 1999, dean of the College of Humanities from September 1995 to August 1997, and head of the Altaic Society of Korea from March 1997 to February 2002.

Outside activities

Death
