Serampore Municipality is the civic body that governs Serampore and its surrounding areas (Mahesh, Tin Bazar, Battala and partly Chatra) in Srirampore subdivision of Hooghly district, West Bengal, India.
History
Serampore is the first town in Bengal to voluntarily adopt the Municipal Act of 1850 Sec XX16.{{cite web | url = http://www.uttarpara.com/heritage/municipality.htm | title = Uttarpara Municipality | publisher = uttarpara.com | accessdate = 4 July 2017}} It is not clear when Serampore Municipality was established.
Serampore is a pre-colonial town on the west bank of the Hooghly. In 1981, 29.44% of the total population formed main workers and 70.56% were non-workers in Serampore Municipality and 54.25% of the total main workers were industrial workers.
