"Sex (I'm a ...)" is a song by American new wave band Berlin from their second studio album, Pleasure Victim (1982). The song was co-written by group members John Crawford, Terri Nunn, and David Diamond and sung as a duet by Crawford and Nunn. It has an electronic disco arrangement, inspired by Giorgio Moroder, and in particular Donna Summer's "I Feel Love".{{cite web|url=https://www.popmatters.com/100-greatest-singles-80s-part1/3 |title=The 100 Best Alternative Singles of the 1980S: 100 – 81 |website=popmatters.com |date=2021-04-05 |accessdate=2023-12-06}}
Released as the album's second single in February 1983,{{cite web|url=http://www.45cat.com/record/729747us |title=Berlin - Sex (I'm a ...) / Tell Me Why - Geffen - USA - 7-29747 |website=45cat.com |accessdate=2016-11-14}} the single became a cult hit on American radio (and a massive hit in Canada, peaking at #4 on the RPM charts) and brought the group into the mainstream. Despite the significant attention, the song's racy lyrics resulted in its being banned from several radio stations. The single peaked at No. 62 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in late March and early April 1983.{{cite web|url=http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100/1983-03-26 |title=Music: Top 100 Songs | Billboard Hot 100 Chart |website=Billboard.com |date=1983-03-26 |accessdate=2016-11-14}}{{cite web|url=http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100/1983-04-02 |title=Music: Top 100 Songs | Billboard Hot 100 Chart |website=Billboard.com |date=1983-04-02 |accessdate=2016-11-14}} The song was also the first single release from the band's new label, Geffen Records.
The music video, which received only limited play on MTV, features a cameo appearance by Nunn's mother Joy.[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SlfyjOycQU&t=51m25s Berlin: Intimate DVD] (2003). Quote -
Terri Nunn: "...made an appearance in Berlin's Sex video ...my mother, Joy." (see mv: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vczkEKWiwKg&t=3m24s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vczkEKWiwKg&t=3m24s])
Nunn later said the lyrics were inspired by her relationship with KROQ DJ Richard Blade, and her attempts to introduce elements of erotic roleplay into their sex life;{{cite web|url=https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/terri-nunn-richard-blade-love-story-biopic-160025770.html |title='Sex'-y love story of Berlin’s Terri Nunn and radio DJ Richard Blade to be made into biopic |website=yahoo.com |date=2023-06-23 |accessdate=2023-12-06}} this was confirmed by Blade.{{cite news|url=https://www.laweekly.com/richard-blades-new-book-is-a-trip-through-kroqs-80s-glory-days/|title=Richard Blade's New Book Is a Trip Through KROQ's '80s Glory Days|publisher=LA Weekly|date=2017-11-10|accessdate=2023-12-08}}
