Career
Zafar joined Bangladesh Nationalist Party in 2003 from Jatiya Party.{{cite news|title=AL killing its own men to create anarchy: PM|url=http://archive.thedailystar.net/2003/09/14/d30914030125.htm|accessdate=9 March 2018|work=archive.thedailystar.net|agency=UNB|publisher=The Daily Star}} He decided to contest the 30 August 2005 Faridpur-1 by election as an independent candidate after failing to get the Bangladesh Nationalist Party nomination.
