Shawn Richard Hunwick (born April 9, 1987) is an American former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played in one National Hockey League (NHL) game with the Columbus Blue Jackets during the 2011–12 season, appearing for just three minutes. He also played professionally in the ECHL, the European Trophy, and the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He is the younger brother of former Wolverines team captain Matt Hunwick, who played for seven clubs in the National Hockey League between 2007 and 2019.

Playing career

As a youth, Hunwick played in the 2001 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Detroit Honeybaked minor ice hockey team.{{cite web|url=https://www.publicationsports.com/ressources/files/439/Joueurs_Pro.pdf|title=Pee-Wee players who have reached NHL or WHA|year=2018|website=Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament|access-date=2019-02-15}}

Hunwick played for the Michigan Wolverines in the CCHA. Hunwick joined the team as a walk-on in 2007–08 and saw little playing time. After redshirting the 2008–09 season, Hunwick made his debut at the end of the 2009–10 season after starter Bryan Hogan was injured against Notre Dame. Hunwick led his team to a CCHA tournament title, where he won tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP). He then led the Wolverines into the NCAA tournament for Michigan's 20th consecutive appearance, where Michigan lost to Miami.{{cite web|url=http://aol.sportingnews.com/nhl/story/2010-03-29/miami-ohio-outlasts-michigan-double-ot-earns-trip-frozen-four|title=Miami (Ohio) outlasts Michigan in double OT, earns trip to Frozen Four|accessdate=March 21, 2012|date= March 29, 2010|publisher=AOL|work=The Sporting News}} During the next season, he led the team to the NCAA title game, where they lost 3–2 in overtime to Minnesota-Duluth.{{cite web|url=http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-hockey/mtt/hunwick_shawn00.html|title=Shawn Hunwick Bio|accessdate=March 20, 2012|publisher=CBS Interactive|work=MGoBlue.com}} In 2011-12, he was named one of the ten finalists for the Hobey Baker Award.{{cite web|url=https://www.ncaa.com/news/icehockey-men/article/2012-03-15/hobey-baker-candidates-announced|title=Hobey Baker candidates announced|accessdate=March 20, 2012|date=March 15, 2012|publisher=NCAA}}
