Sheshory was first mentioned in 1427{{Cite web |date=15 September 2022 |title=Шешори — срібний курорт на Прикарпатті |trans-title=Sheshory: a silver resort in Prykarpattia |url=https://karpaty.love/naprjamky-vidpochynku/vidpochynok-v-karpatah-ivano-frankivska-oblast/82-sheshory.html |access-date=22 May 2024 |website=Karpaty.love |language=uk}} or 1445,{{Cite web |title=Шешори |trans-title=Sheshory |url=http://www.kosivart.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/sheshory.main/ |access-date=22 May 2024 |website=KosivArt |language=uk}} although evidence of human settlement in the village dates to the Stone Age. The village is located near the {{ill|Pistynka|uk|Пістинька}} river, and several waterfalls are located near the village. A sanatorium and tourist resort both exist in the village.

The village is inhabited by Hutsuls, and contains Horishnia Tserkva, one of the oldest Hutsul churches. A monument to the writer, poet, and artist Taras Shevchenko, created by {{ill|Ivan Honchar|uk|Гончар Іван Макарович}},{{Cite web |title=Шешори |url=https://castles.com.ua/szeszory.html |access-date=22 May 2024 |website=Castles and Churches of Ukraine |language=uk}} was opened by Viacheslav Chornovil in his capacity as a Komsomol worker on 8 August 1965. Another monument, to the writer and poet Ivan Franko, was erected in the village on 13 August 1995.
