Shivaji marched to Surat with the Maratha army. They set up camp near the princely state of Jawhar and met the Koli ruler Vikramshah Mukne of Jawhar.{{Cite book|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=ByQi2kN7FNgC&q=Shirpamal|title=Environment, Security and Tourism Development in South Asia: Tourism development in South Asia|date=2004|publisher=Gyan Publishing House|isbn=978-81-8205-139-3|pages=49|language=en}} Together they invaded Surat. Shirpamal was the meeting place of Shivaji and Vikramshah and has since become a historical monument. Chhatrapati Shivali Visited Shirpamal at Jawhar on 31 December 1664.
