Shivadeva I (also spelled Sivadeva) was a king of the Licchavi dynasty who ruled Nepal from around 590 to 605 C.E.{{Cite book |last=Shrestha |first=D.B. |url=https://himalaya.socanth.cam.ac.uk/collections/rarebooks/downloads/History_Ancient_Medieval_Nepal.pdf |title=The History of Ancient and Medieval Nepal |year=1972 |page=11}}{{Cite web |last=Kessler |first=P. Political life
In 598 C.E, a feudal lord, Amshuverma, who belonged to the Vaisya clan, rose to a position of an influential officer and assumed the title of Maharajadhiraj reducing Shivadeva to a mere figurehead.{{Cite journal |last=Shaha |first=Rishikesh |title=Ancient and Medieval Nepal |url=https://www.repository.cam.ac.uk/bitstream/id/522659/kailash_14_0304_01.pdf/ |journal=University of Cambridge |pages=157–158}} Rather than resisting Amshuverma's rise, he married his daughter to him. Upon his death, his son-in-law Amshuverma succeeded him as the king.
