The Silicon Module Super League (SMSL) later the Solar Module Super League is a group of major crystalline silicon (c-Si) module suppliers in the solar PV industry. The 'big six' industry group members were Canadian Solar, Hanwha Q CELLS, JA Solar, Jinko Solar, and Trina Solar.{{clarify|reason= Why only fie?|date=February 2022}} LONGi{{Cite web|url=https://www.pv-tech.org/editors-blog/longi-is-the-fastest-growing-pv-manufacturer-in-the-industry|title = LONGi is the fastest growing PV manufacturer in the industry|date = April 2017}} the world's largest solar monocrystalline silicon manufacturer and GCL,{{Cite web|url=http://www.pv-tech.org/editors-blog/gcl-joins-the-exclusive-silicon-module-super-league-for-2016|title=GCL joins the exclusive Silicon Module Super League for 2016|date=13 April 2016}} the world's largest solar poly crystalline silicon manufacturer, both joined the SMSL in mid-2016.{{Cite web |last=Colville |first=Finlay |date=2016-07-11 |title=Longi Silicon Materials becomes latest member of Silicon Module Super League |url=https://www.pv-tech.org/longi-silicon-materials-becomes-latest-member-of-silicon-module-super-leagu/ |access-date=2024-06-06 |website=PV Tech |language=en-US}} As of February 2019, PVTech added First Solar and [https://www.risenenergy.com/ Risen Energy] to the list of SMSL manufacturers.{{cite news |last1=Colville |first1=Finlay |title=First Solar and Risen Energy included in new SMSL for 2019 |url=https://www.pv-tech.org/first-solar-and-risen-energy-included-in-new-smsl-for-2019/ |access-date=7 February 2022 |work=PV Tech |date=1 February 2019}}

The achievement scale of this solar module industry breakaway group is notable. These seven module suppliers have been forecast to ship about half of the world's end-market supply during 2017.{{Update inline|date=April 2025}}

Chinese solar engineers at Trina Solar hold the record for a 22.61% PV efficiency in mono-PERC-cells with Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell (PERC) technology developed at its State Key Laboratory of PV Science and Technology of China [http://www.pv-tech.org/news/trina-sets-new-mono-perc-cell-efficiency-record-of-22.61 Kenning, T. Trina sets new mono PERC cell efficiency record of 22.61%. PV Tech. Dec 19, 2016 1:16 PM GMT] That one-third efficiency improvement was achieved in four years of PV research in China.22.61% (December 2016 record)/17% (December 2012 record) = 1.33 (a one-third improvement)

SMSL group members have held the PV efficiency record for some time. Trina Solar in 2015 had set the previous record of 22.13%. Again, in July 2016, Trina Solar claimed that its production lines were able to produce the same kind of PERC cells in large volume with an average efficiency of 21.12%. This new, later higher cell efficiency which surpasses Trina Solar's record, has been independently confirmed by the Fraunhofer ISE CalLab in Germany. Trina Solar achieves 24.13% conversion efficiency for IBC solar cell.[https://www.pv-tech.org/news/trina-solar-achieves-24.13-conversion-efficiency-for-ibc-solar-cell PV Tech.
