Status
A 2012 SIL report described the language as vigorous and used across all ages, with speakers having a strong ethno-linguistic identity and a desire to maintain the language.{{Cite web |title=Glottolog 5.1 - Simbali |url=https://glottolog.org/resource/languoid/id/simb1259 |access-date=2025-02-17 |website=glottolog.org}} This is seemingly no longer true; the Simbali have since lost most of their land to palm oil and logging companies, a large risk factor for language death.{{Cite web |last=Archive |first=Endangered Languages |title=The Simbali Baining of Papua New Guinea: A community-based documentation project {{!}} Endangered Languages Archive |url=https://www.elararchive.org/dk0694/ |access-date=2025-02-17 |website=www.elararchive.org |language=en-US}}
