Sixhaven is a cancelled underground metro station in Amsterdam-Noord, Netherlands, located on the route of metro line 52 of the Amsterdam Metro. The station was postponed in 2003 due to high costs and low passenger expectancy. The section of the tunnel where the station was proposed was made larger to allow for the station to be constructed at a later date. Discussions of creating the station continued until 2021, when it was cancelled completely.
Location and layout
The station is located under the Sixhaven harbour, between Amsterdam Centraal and Noorderpark metro station. History

The station was not featured in the 1968 metro plan released by the information office of the municipality.{{Sfn|Bureau Voorlichting van de Gemeente Amsterdam|1968|p=6}} In a 1995 article of de Volkskrant, Sixhaven was shown on a map as a possible station.{{Cite news|url=https://resolver.kb.nl/resolve?urn=ABCDDD:010870765:mpeg21:a0169|title=Slopen is taboe bij aanleg nieuwe metrolijn|author=Pieter van der Berg and Özkan Gölpınar|date=16 February 1995|page=8|access-date=6 February 2023|newspaper=De Volkskrant|via=Delpher|language=Dutch}} The station was removed from the plan in October 2003 due to the little number of expected passengers as well as a doubling in the expected costs to €30 million.{{Cite web|url=https://www.parool.nl/nieuws/waarom-komt-er-geen-metrostation-bij-de-sixhaven~b7127784/|title=Waarom komt er geen metrostation bij de Sixhaven?|author=Elisa Hermanides|date=18 October 2014|access-date=5 February 2023|website=Het Parool|language=Dutch|archive-date=5 February 2023|archive-url=https://archive.today/20230205225903/https://www.parool.nl/nieuws/waarom-komt-er-geen-metrostation-bij-de-sixhaven~b7127784/|url-status=live}}
A 2009 investigation concluded that a stations with 4 tracks was still possible. In 2015 however, it was concluded that the development of Sixhaven en nearby Overhoeks was too unpredictable to allow the creation of a transportation model for the area.{{Sfn|van Noort|2015|p=56}} Alderman Pieter Litjens said that a station could still be constructed if it was necessary in the long term.{{Cite web|url=https://www.at5.nl/artikelen/135362/overhoeks-op-lange-termijn-bereikbaar-met-noord-zuidlijn|title=Overhoeks op 'lange termijn' bereikbaar met Noord/Zuidlijn|date=3 October 2014|access-date=5 February 2023|website=AT5|language=Dutch|archive-date=5 February 2023|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230205224757/https://www.at5.nl/artikelen/135362/overhoeks-op-lange-termijn-bereikbaar-met-noord-zuidlijn|url-status=live}} It was reported in 2017 that the station could be constructed while the line was already running with minimal disruption of the metro traffic, but that the municipality would re-evaluate the station in 2020.
The station was cancelled indefinitely in January 2021, following reports estimating that it would cost €150 million, compared to only €45 million in 2017. The station would've allowed for the line to run at a higher frequency. Locals complained that no alternative transportation method was provided to replace the station.{{Cite web|url=https://www.parool.nl/amsterdam/geen-metrostation-sixhaven-hoe-moet-je-straks-dan-het-ij-over~b9a0c919d/|title=Geen metrostation Sixhaven: hoe moet je straks dan het IJ over?|author=Marc Kruyswijk|date=27 January 2021|access-date=5 February 2023|archive-date=13 January 2023|archive-url=https://archive.today/20230113100514/https://www.parool.nl/amsterdam/geen-metrostation-sixhaven-hoe-moet-je-straks-dan-het-ij-over~b9a0c919d/|url-status=live|url-access=subscription|website=Het Parool|language=Dutch}}
Services
The station was due to be served by metro 52, also known as the North–South line (Dutch: Noord/Zuidlijn).
