The Slate River is a {{convert|48.8|mi|km|adj=mid|-long}}U.S. Geological Survey. National Hydrography Dataset high-resolution flowline data. [http://viewer.nationalmap.gov/viewer/ The National Map], accessed April 1, 2011 tributary of the James River in the U.S. state of Virginia. It rises about {{convert|10|mi}} northeast of Appomattox and flows northeast past Buckingham, eventually reaching the James River near Bremo Bluff. The river's course is entirely within Buckingham County.
