Controversy

In April 2017, a post on the Raleigh Police Protective Association's Facebook page accused employees and a manager of the Smithfield's location in Garner, North Carolina of singing "Fuck tha Police" while officers dined there.{{cite web|url=http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/wake-county/article147587124.html |title=Police get apology from restaurant after employees sang "F- The Police" as they ate | News & Observer |publisher=Newsobserver.com |date=2017-04-29 |access-date=2018-04-15}} An investigation determined that nobody in the restaurant sang, and that the actual incident consisted of a single employee mouthing the words, "fuck the police", to two police officers at the counter. The police officers told a friend who later posted an incorrect account on Facebook.{{cite web | website=The News & Observer | last=Cioffi | first=Chris | date=May 3, 2017 | title=No employees were singing 'F--- The Police' police, owner said | url=https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/wake-county/article148315269.html}}
