Smithfield General Market is a market hall in the Smithfield District of London, and one of the five buildings of Smithfield Market. It was designed by Horace Jones in the 19th century but was damaged during the Second World War and became disused.
In March 2015, the Museum of London revealed plans to vacate its Barbican site and move into the General Market Building.{{cite news |last1=Dubois|first1=Anna|last2=Prynn|first2=Jonathan|title=Museum of London going ahead with £70m move to Smithfield|url=https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/museum-of-london-going-ahead-with-70m-move-to-smithfield-10138884.html |newspaper=London Evening Standard|date=27 March 2015|access-date=31 March 2015}} The cost of the move is estimated to be in the region of £70 million, and the museum is due to reopen at the site by 2026.{{cite news |author=Dex |first=Robert |date=10 February 2022 |title=Museum of London to close in December ahead of big move and name change |work=Evening Standard |publisher=Evening Standard Ltd |url=https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/museum-of-london-close-december-move-name-change-b981562.html |access-date=11 July 2022}}
