Sodalis glossinidius is a species of bacteria, the type and only species of its genus. It is a microaerophilic secondary endosymbiont of the tsetse fly. Strain M1T is the type strain.{{cite journal | vauthors = Dale C, Maudlin I | title = Sodalis gen. nov. and Sodalis glossinidius sp. nov., a microaerophilic secondary endosymbiont of the tsetse fly Glossina morsitans morsitans | journal = International Journal of Systematic Bacteriology | volume = 49 Pt 1 | issue = 1 | pages = 267–75 | date = January 1999 | pmid = 10028272 | doi = 10.1099/00207713-49-1-267 | doi-access = free }} Sodalis glossinidius is the only gammaproteobacterial insect symbiont to be cultured and thus amenable to genetic modification, suggesting that it could be used as part of a control strategy by vectoring antitrypanosome genes. The organism may increase the susceptibility of tsetse flies to trypanosomes.{{cite journal | vauthors = Darby AC, Lagnel J, Matthew CZ, Bourtzis K, Maudlin I, Welburn SC | title = Extrachromosomal DNA of the symbiont Sodalis glossinidius | journal = Journal of Bacteriology | volume = 187 | issue = 14 | pages = 5003–7 | date = July 2005 | pmid = 15995217 | pmc = 1169519 | doi = 10.1128/JB.187.14.5003-5007.2005 }}
