Nick Jones (Soho House founder and previous managing director) sold 80% of the club to British high-street tycoon Richard Caring in 2008.{{Cite news|last=Addley|first=Esther|date=13 January 2012|title=Soho House agrees £250m deal|language=en-GB|newspaper=The Guardian|url=https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2012/jan/13/soho-house-deal-american-billionaire|access-date=20 March 2016|issn=0261-3077}} On 13 January 2012, the Financial Times announced that 60% of Soho House Group had been acquired by the US billionaire Ron Burkle, through his investment fund Yucaipa in a £250 million deal, with founder Nick Jones retaining 10% and Richard Caring (Caprice Holdings) 30%. In September 2015, the company’s high leverage and limited free cash flow was under scrutiny by fixed income investors.{{cite web|last1=Blitz|first1=Roger|last2=Jopson|first2=Barney|last3=Rappeport|first3=Alan|date=13 January 2012|title=US billionaire Burkle buys UK's Soho House|url=http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/074ad618-3e0d-11e1-ac9b-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1mlMd1Ccf|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120117133430/http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/074ad618-3e0d-11e1-ac9b-00144feabdc0.html|archive-date=17 January 2012|website=Financial Times|publisher=|accessdate=18 February 2012}}{{cite news|last=Smith|first=Robert|date=25 September 2015|title=Finance returns the favour and snubs Soho House|work=Reuters|publisher=|url=https://www.reuters.com/article/soho-house-bonds/finance-returns-the-favour-and-snubs-soho-house-idUSL5N11U3ZS20150925|accessdate=11 March 2018}} However, company profit potential has been affected by growth in new clubs.{{cite news |last=Laurent |first=Lionel |date=5 February 2018 |title=Membership Is Closer than You Think |work=Bloomberg News |publisher= |url=https://www.bloomberg.com/gadfly/articles/2018-02-05/your-soho-house-membership-is-closer-than-you-think\ |url-status=dead |access-date=14 January 2022 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190502061416/https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2018-02-05/your-soho-house-membership-is-closer-than-you-think/ |archive-date=2 May 2019 |accessdate=}}

Membership

Soho House membership policies are said to focus on creativity "above net worth and job titles" with "studied resistance to ostentation...[and] cultivated status signifiers," and favour moral values over financial success ("several execs were banned because they were thought to be abusive to their assistants"). In June 2015, Soho House had over 50,000 members and a global waiting list of over 30,000. In July 2021, Soho House had 119,000 members across 27 houses in 10 countries.{{cite news |last=Zainab |first=Noor |date=15 July 2021 |title=From Soho to Wall Street: Membership Collective shares fall in debut |url=https://www.reuters.com/business/soho-wall-street-membership-collective-shares-fall-debut-2021-07-15/ |access-date=15 September 2021 |website=Reuters}}
