Space Delta 8 (DEL 8) is the United States Space Force unit responsible for military satellite communications and operates a variety of satellite constellation. It is headquartered at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado.

History

Before the founding of an independent Space Force, the Air Force Space Command's (AFSPC) 50th Operations Group (50 OG), part of the 50th Space Wing, performed the satellite communications and position, navigation, and timing missions. As part of the reorganization in the stand-up of Space Force, 50 OG was inactivated and DEL 8 was activated on 24 July 2020.{{Cite web|date=2020-07-24|title=Space Force Announces Significant Reorganization|url=https://www.airforcemag.com/space-force-organizations-take-shape-as-selection-boards-meet/|access-date=2020-07-25|website=Air Force Magazine|language=en-US|archive-date=August 11, 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200811195538/https://www.airforcemag.com/space-force-organizations-take-shape-as-selection-boards-meet/|url-status=live}}{{Cite web|url=https://www.schriever.spaceforce.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/2226859/50th-sw-activates-750th-og/|title=50th SW activates 750th OG|website=Schriever Air Force Base|access-date=December 13, 2020|archive-date=January 22, 2021|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210122133005/https://www.schriever.spaceforce.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/2226859/50th-sw-activates-750th-og/|url-status=live}}{{cite web|url=https://www.schriever.spaceforce.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/2287524/delta-8/|title=Delta 8 Fact Sheet|date=24 July 2020|agency=Schriever Air Force Base|access-date=13 December 2020|archive-date=January 28, 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220128031950/https://www.schriever.spaceforce.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/2287524/delta-8/|url-status=live}} {{PD-notice}}{{Cite web|date=2020-07-24|title=Space Force reorganizes former Air Force space wings into "Deltas" and "Garrisons"|url=https://spacenews.com/space-force-reorganizes-former-air-force-space-wings-into-deltas-and-garrisons/|access-date=2020-07-25|website=SpaceNews|language=en-US|publisher=SpaceNews}} On 8 February 2022, the 50th Operations Support Squadron was inactivated and the 8th Combat Training Squadron was activated.{{Cite web|url=https://www.dvidshub.net/image/7059528/8th-combat-training-squadron-activation-ceremony|title=8th Combat Training Squadron Activation Ceremony|website=DVIDS|access-date=July 3, 2022|archive-date=July 3, 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220703101348/https://www.dvidshub.net/image/7059528/8th-combat-training-squadron-activation-ceremony|url-status=live}}
