History

On March 13, 1981, the unit was established in SR Macedonia (now North Macedonia).{{cite web |title=40 години од формирањето на Специјалната aнтитерористичка eдиница – Тигар |url=https://mvr.gov.mk/vest/15108 |website=Ministry of Internal Affairs |language=mk |date=13 March 2021}} The unit was involved in the 2001 insurgency in Macedonia.{{cite book |author=John Phillips |title=Macedonia: Warlords and Rebels in the Balkans |date=2004 |publisher=Yale University Press |isbn=9781860648410 |page=113}} On March 29, Tigers along with the military units Wolves and Scorpions took over Tanuševci. In the battle of Aračinovo, the Tigers and Wolves failed to stop the rebels' defense line.
