Spider-Man's wedding at Shea Stadium in 1987 was a publicity stunt and live performance adaptation of the comic book storyline "The Wedding!" produced by Marvel Comics. The event was meant to advertise the special issue of The Amazing Spider-Man comic book, which went on sale the next Tuesday and took place at home plate in front of more than 45,000 fans just before the New York Mets played the Pittsburgh Pirates.{{cite news|last=Gross|first=Michael|url=https://www.nytimes.com/1987/06/02/style/spider-man-to-wed-model.html|title=Spider-Man to Wed Model|date= June 2, 1987|work=New York Times}}{{cite web|url=http://gothamist.com/2012/08/21/video_when_spider-man_and_mary_jane.php|publisher=gothamist.com|title=Video: When Spider-Man And Mary Jane Got Hitched At Shea Stadium: Gothamist|access-date=2017-01-08|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20171106043759/http://gothamist.com/2012/08/21/video_when_spider-man_and_mary_jane.php|archive-date=2017-11-06}}{{cite web|url=https://www.sbnation.com/2012/3/23/2897287/when-spider-man-got-married-in-shea-stadium|publisher=SB Nation|title=When Spider-Man Got Married In Shea Stadium|date=23 March 2012 |access-date=2017-01-08}}{{cite web|url=http://oldtimefamilybaseball.com/post/19778514207/great-moments-in-mets-history-or-the-time|publisher=Old Time Family Baseball|title=Great Moments in Mets History or: The Time Spider-man Married Mary Jane at Shea Stadium|access-date=2017-01-08}}{{cite web|url=http://comicsalliance.com/stan-lee-officiates-spider-man-and-mj-wedding-in-awesome-1987-fo/|website=comicsalliance.com|publisher=ComicsAlliance|author=Nadel, Nick|title=Stan Lee Officiates Spider-Man and MJ Wedding In Awesome 1987 Footage|access-date=2017-01-08|date=April 28, 2010}}{{cite web|url=https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/VintageTube-Spider-Man-Shea-Stadium-and-Morgan?urn=mlb,84584|publisher=Yahoo!
