The Springville and Sardinia Railroad was an 11.57 mile {{RailGauge|3ft|lk=on}} narrow gauge railroad organized by Springville, New York interests on May 6, 1878 from Sardinia Junction (now the hamlet of Chaffee) with the Pennsylvania Railroad through Sardinia to Springville.[https://www.dot.ny.gov/regional-offices/region5/project-repository/219%20Section%205%20DRPFIN.pdf US Route 219 Construction Section 5] A pre-construction archaeology study, which says "On May 6, 1878, the Springville and Sardinia railroad was opened as a spur line of the Buffalo, New York and Philadelphia Railroad, connecting at Sardinia Junction." It proved to be unprofitable once the Buffalo, Rochester, and Pittsburgh Railway was completed in 1883 and the tracks were pulled up in 1886.[http://history.rays-place.com/ny/sardinia-ny.htm History of Sardinia, NY][http://wnyheritagepress.org/photos_week_2005/springville/train_station.htm Western New York Heritage Press][https://books.google.com/books?id=7POj8GvF4sIC&pg=PA458 American Narrow Gauge Railroads]
