History

The Brighton-based{{cite journal |title=On the crest of a wave |journal=Manchester Evening News |date=4 August 1993 |page=29}} duo was made up of guitarist Kevin Stagg and singer Simon Andrew, who took the act name from the first two letters of each surname.{{cite book |last1=Betts |first1=Graham |title=Complete UK Hit Singles 1952–2004 |date=2005 |publisher=Collins |location=London |page=737}} Their first single, "Suntan", written by the duo with producer Tobias Lunch,{{cite journal |title=Top 75 Singles |journal=Music Week |date=31 July 1993 |page=14}} was released on the Gut Records imprint Hug, and reached number 40 in the UK in July 1993.{{cite web |title=Stan songs and albums |url=https://www.officialcharts.com/artist/29116/stan/ |website=Official Charts Company |access-date=6 February 2025}}
