Staphylococcus simiae is a Gram-positive, coagulase-negative member of the bacterial genus Staphylococcus consisting of clustered cocci. This species was originally isolated from the gastrointestinal tract of South American squirrel monkeys, Saimiri sciureus, and found to be genetically similar to S. aureus, but more biochemically similar to S. piscifermentans.{{cite journal|last=Pantůcek|first=R |author2=Sedlácek, I |author3=Petrás, P |author4=Koukalová, D |author5=Svec, P |author6=Stetina, V |author7=Vancanneyt, M |author8=Chrastinová, L |author9=Vokurková, J |author10=Růzicková, V |author11=Doskar, J |author12=Swings, J |author13=Hájek, V|title=Staphylococcus simiae sp. nov., isolated from South American squirrel monkeys.|journal=International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology|date=September 2005|volume=55|issue=Pt 5|pages=1953–8|pmid=16166694|doi=10.1099/ijs.0.63590-0|doi-access=free }}
